STAFF: Artistic DirectorNancy SulikNancy Sulik, Artistic Director of Corpus Christi Concert Ballet since
1976, began her dance training in Alabama and Mississippi. She received
a BA Degree in Dance and French from the Mississippi State College for
Women. She was a member of the MSCW Performing Ensemble which toured to
create interest in the performing arts on the university level. Upon Graduation
she performed with the Houston Youth Symphony Ballet and studied ballet
and modern dance in Europe. In Corpus Christi, Mrs. Sulik organized Ballet Jeunesse, a performing group from !974-1976. She taught Master Classes for various companies and schools and is currently teaching modern dance and ballet at Del Mar College. Mrs. Sulik has taught French at Incarnate Word Academy for many years. Her interest in dance and education fostered the growth of Educational Ballet Matinees, Artists-in-Dance Residencies, and a yearly performance with guest dancers, master teachers, and choreographers. She is the coordinator of the Encore Program which provides student participation in the performing arts in the CCISD and other area schools. She is one of the organizers of the Student Performing Arts Series, inaugurated in 1988 bringing classical ballet, symphonic music, and professional theater to over 15,200 students each school year. In the spring of 1995, Mrs. Sulik served on the CCISD Strategic Planning Committee establishing seven goals to be attained in the district over the next five years. She served on the Task Force to develop a comprehensive curriculum to meet current and emergency needs of students. She also was appointed to be a representative on the community Cultural Steering Committee, working with members of the Municipal Arts Commission and other heads of organizations to formulate a plan for promotion and development of the arts guided by the Arts Market representatives hired by the city of Corpus Christi.
She is a founding member of the Coastal Bend School for the Arts and serves as Director and Coordinator of Dance. She has attended the National Conference for the National Guild of Community Schools for the Arts in Boulder, Colorado. Recently she attended the Teacher's institute for Creative Dance in Seattle, Washington at Seattle Pacific University. This intensive workshop was led by nationally recognized childhood movement and creative dance expert Anne Green. As director of Ballet Academy, official school of CCCB, she has developed a complete dance training curriculum and coordinates educational outreach activities with CCCB programs.
