About the Spring Performances!
CCCB has been recognized throughout the Coastal Bend Community and the
state for its extensive educational outreach programs. Thousands of students
have benefited from a great variety of creative programs designed to actively
involve students in dance and the ballet arts.
In support of CCCB's educational objectives the spring performance is
designed as an entertaining and educational production. The performance
reveals the work of the ballet dancer from beginner to professional and the
ballet evolving from a bare stage to a complete classical ballet.
The production begins with an introduction by Artistic Director Nancy
Sulik and choreographer Randall Soileau. With the dancers demonstration they
explain the progression of ballet training, structure of a class, and
pantomime "the sign language of classical ballet".
The first ballet, L'Academie, by choreographer
Soileau and set to the music of J.S. Bach is an abstract ballet based on the
progression of ballet training in the classroom. Beginning with warm-up
exercises at the ballet barre the dance progresses through center practice, pirouettes (turning combinations), petit
allegro (sharp fast movement), to grande allegro
(large movement).
The second work of the program is the premiere of the ballet Beauty and the Beast also by choreographer Soileau and
set to a compiled score of works by the popular composer Moby.
This contemporary version of a classic folktale combines the movements of
classical ballet, modern dance, jazz, and even Hip Hop! By incorporating
ballet and contemporary dance movement with a popular score CCCB demonstrates
through Beauty and the Beast the forward movement of ballet technique while
retaining the structure, sets, and costumes of the classical ballet.
"Building Tomorrow's Audience Today", CCCB's motto, explains the
company's desire to produce enlightening and educational ballets.

Corpus Christi Concert Ballet at
Tanzsommer ...A European Dance Festival
Members
of the corpus Christi Concert Ballet traveled to Austria this June to
participate in TANZSOMMER...A European Dance Festival. The Festival annually
features professional and pre-professional companies from North America in
performances at Tanzsommer in Innsbruck, St. Johann, and Vienna, Austria.
The 12-day tour began in Munich, Germany with a city tour and rehearsals.
The Gala performance was held in the 900 year old Sall Innsbruck followed by
a cast party. There were matinee performances for school children, a Mayor's
Welcome Party in St. Johann in Tyrol and a castle performance.
Tours were provided to the famous Ludwig's Castle and unforgettable trips
to Salzburg and Venice.
Rehearsals
and performances filled the days and nights with the excitement of living the
life of a professional dancer... mingling with dancers from around the world,
having master classes with outstanding teachers and absorbing the culture of
a foreign country through one of the oldest forms of communication...DANCE!!!
CCCBallet performed in the ballet and contemporary categories. Twenty
dancers plus parents friends, and chaperones participated in the tour.
Several extended their trip abroad with a visit to Paris to savor some French
ambiance and landmark sights in The City of Light.
The event proved dancers make great ambassadors, especially ones from
Texas!
