ABOUT: History
History of Corpus Christi Concert Ballet:
Corpus
Christi Concert Ballet (CCCB) was chartered as a nonprofit organization
in 1976 under the direction of Nancy Sulik. For more than 25 years this
regional company has provided many seasons of diverse classical ballet
and contemporary dance productions and educational programs for the Coastal
Bend of Texas.
Combining
the talents of guest artists and regional dancers, CCCB has presented
classics such as its annual The Nutcracker,
The Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella,
as well as many contemporary work including Carmen,
The Red Shoes, Esmerelda,
and Alice's Adventures. Concert ballet's repertoire
features original works by many of today's most talented choreographers.
This
regional company continues to play an active role in the growth of the
arts in education in South Texas. CCCB has expanded its educational objective
through several Educational Outreach Programs including the Student Performing
Arts Series (SPAS), the Encore Program, Pique Shows, Dance and Rhythm
Training (DART), Artists-in-Residency (AIR),and Early Childhood Music
and Movement.
The
Dance Initiative Project: Bailando al Aire Libre/Dancin
in the Park was begun in Spring 2000. These two free performances
produced at the Cole Park Amphitheater in September provides exposure
to many diverse forms of dance by area and local dance companies and ensembles.
Bailando provides families with culturally
entertaining programs in a beautiful outdoor setting. This project was
repeated in September 2001 with audiences totaling over 2,500. These stimulating
performances introduce dance forms to many people who have never experienced
any live performances.
In
June 2000 CCCB has been invited to participate in the Tanzsommer Dance
Festival in Austria. The company will perform for children in St. Johann
and also in Vienna.
We are truly living our motto "We're Building Tomorrow's
Audiences Today" on a local and international scale!
Together with our sponsors Del Mar College and the Del Mar
College Foundation we have contributed much to the growth of the arts
in education by making live cultural programs available to our community.
We are very grateful for the support and continuous interest of the President
of Del Mar College and the Administration.
With
the continued support of our dancers, staff, volunteers, sponsors, and
contributors, Corpus Christi Concert Ballet hopes to provide at least
another 25 years of service to the arts and South Texas.
